Descrizione
English: Italia Italia, Tuscany, Massa, St. Francis Cathedral. The church was built on a previous franciscan cloister and was sacred in 1389. It was elevated to Cathedral in the early 1800s when by the will of Elisa Baciocchi, Napoleon’ sister then Governor of the Republic of Lucca, the previous cathedral was demolished in order to enlarge “Piazza Aranci”. The façade was rebuilt in 1936 on plan of Cesario Fellini. The interior has a nave with two Chaples on the right side: the Ducal Chapel dedicated to the Blessed Sacrament and the Stigmas Chapel. Beside the main altar are the left altar with a wooden Crucifix work of the 16th century and the right altar dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary, the marble altars are by Bergamini.
